1963 Plymouth Valiant: The Prince Of Cars

http://hotrodhotline.com/feature/2004show/04clay/assets/images/db_images/db_Ann_Webb__1964_Plymouth_Valiant.jpg

Have you heard about the Prince of Cars? Aha, it’s the Plymouth Valiant! This awesome ride is among the most admired sedans in the United States for almost two decades. It was initially launched as a 1960 model - the period when Detroit was reviving the small car segment. The Valiant received various efficient slant-six engines and striking stylings. Oh yeah, the Valiant is absolutely a sweet little ride that offers not just clean floor mats, but the best overall convenience, styling and performance.
The Valiant endured four generations, whipping famous alternates such as the Barracuda and the Duster and soon it was substituted in 1976 by the Plymouth Volare. The Valiant was also a big hit in foreign countries. Plymouth was actually a component of Chrysler during the early 60s. And here’s another trivia for all of you - the Plymouth Valiant starred in various Hollywood films! Yes it’s a fact! Check out the films below that featured the Prince of Cars:
    * Carry On Again Doctor (1967 Barracuda)
    * Duel (1970 Valiant)
    * Vanishing Point (1970 Dodge Challenger R/T)
    * Marathon Man (1970’s Valiants)
    * Christine (1968 Valiant)
    * L’homme aux yeux d’argent (1967 Valiant Signet)
    * D.A.R.Y.L. (1967 Valiant Signet)
    * Born on 4th July (1966 Valiant 200 Wagon)
    * Batman (1970’s Valiants, also Volare)
    * Jack the Bear (1962 Valiant)
    * Matilda (1961/62 Valiant)
    * Private Parts (1968/69 Valiant)
    * My Favorite Martian (1961 Valiant)
    * Cry Freedom (1967/68 South African Valiant)

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Is A Star

There’s one classic car that has been my fascination lately - it’s the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro! From the day it was first introduced in 1967 as new model year on a brand new rear-wheel drive using a GM F-body platform, the Camaro was absolutely a hit during that era. At the start, the Camaro was advertised on the top 40 radio stations of the day so as to promote this vehicle to the young adult market.
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with its share of perfect Chevy body parts was available as a 2-door, 2+2 seating, coupe or convertible with a choice of inline-6 and V8 power plants. The first-generation Camaro would last until the 1969 model year and would finally inspire the design of the new retro fifth-generation Camaro.
During the first week of July, the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro has once again resurfaced… in the spotlight! What I meant about this is that the Camaro starred in a movie entitled The Transformers movie! I guess everybody have seen this awesome flick during the opening week! Yeah, I am one of the million fans who watched the Transformers on its premiere night! This movie is absolutely a blockbuster hit! And maybe is the movie of the year!
Anyway, going back to the Camaro, this car played a remarkable role in the movie as Bumblebee - the friendliest and one of the greatest soldiers of the Autobots. Actually, he was one of the key characters who brought color to the story.
Some scenes on the movie proved that the 1969 Camaro still got the power and the right stuff in it! After a hot pursuit and a clash with one of the Decepticons named Barricade (a modified Saleen Ford Mustang Police Car), the Camaro is invincible! Impressive indeed! But later on, he emerged as the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro concept car after he was called as a “piece of crap” by Sam’s girlfriend!

Porsche Cayman: Review!

Porsche Cayman
Here's one of the first reviews of the new Cayman.
First Opinion
Despite subtle styling differences, the new Cayman is every bit as desirable as the highly muscular S. It’s just as good to drive, loses little visual impact and is sure to hold on to its value. The small performance sacrifice isn’t something every driver will want to make, but for Porsche fans who are on a budget, the Cayman’s lower price will more than make up for it.

Timing is everything when it comes to successful car launches – so why has Porsche chosen to unleash its entry-level Cayman now? After all, the company says sales of the flagship Cayman S are double what was expected. Also, the model cleaned up at this year’s Auto Express New Car Honours awards, easily winning the title of the UK’s best sporting car.

However, Porsche claims that the base Cayman will only serve to extend the appeal of the machine. Described by the manufacturer as cheaper but no less thrilling, the newcomer aims to bring the car to a wider audience.

Boasting a 2.7-litre engine, it may be the entry-level model but, on the road, it has lost none of its bigger brother’s bite. And at £36,220, it is a whopping £7,755 cheaper, too – which puts it firmly in the territory of the Mercedes SLK and BMW Z4 Coupé.

Porsche Cayenne: New Model Breaks Cover!

Porsche Cayenne
Here are spy images of the facelifted Cayenne. Don't be fooled by all the taping on the back, if you look closely, you can see the adjusted tailights.
Our spies caught the sporty off-roader being put through its paces in Germany with a minimal disguise. And while changes to the metalwork have been kept to a minimum, buyers will still get distinctive styling when the big off-roader goes on sale.

The most signifcant alterations are to the nose, where new headlights and a more aggressive front bumper, complete with wide-set foglamps, appear.

Another less obvious change with the nose is the increased overhang ahead of the front wheels, giving greater protection to pedestrians in the event of an accident.

Meanwhile, at the back, there's a fresh bumper, the lights are resculpted to give a sharper look, and a neat roof spoiler also makes an appearance.

Improved interior trim and subtle tweaks to the suspension to boost handling are also expected. The high-performance SUV is set to hit showrooms later this year.

Suzuki Splash – Light Car Segment Heating Up

he Suzuki Swift has been an enormous success for the Japanese brand, capturing the same audience that Hyundai managed in the 90s with the Hyundai Excel, the Suzuki Swift has successfully brought Suzuki back into the Australian market.
Suzuki Splash
But how will Suzuki follow up the swift? With the SX4 making its way in June, Suzuki’s new model is expected to sit below the Swift. Currently dubbed as the Suzuki Splash, the new model is based on the swift platform.
Recently we reported that holden is considering a light-car, the new Daewoo Matiz. If Holden’s plans go through the Splash will go head to head with the Korean.
More details will be released at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. However from what do know, the European made splash will have six airbags and an electronic stability program (as standard).
Suzuki Splash Rear
Suzuki plans to offer three different engines, two petrol and one diesel – no automatic will be offered, all variants will be driven via a 5-speed manual. While we can’t confirm if all engines will make their way to Australia, there is no reason to think otherwise.
  • One-litre, three-cylinder, (12-valve) 48kW
  • 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, (16-valve) 63kW,
  • 1.3-litre, (16-valve) diesel 55kW
Although the Swift is made in Japan, the splash will come from, wait for it, Hungary. Thats not the end of it though, Magyar Suzuki (Hungary) will be producing the petrol versions, but the diesel engines will comes from India.
Will the Splash enjoy the same success as the Swift in Australia? Will Holden bring out the Matiz to compete? The next 12 months are set to shape the light-car segment for some years to come.

Land Rover Defender 90 Yachting EditionCruising its way to the Essen Motor Show floors, is the sea-flavored Land Rover Defender 90 Yachting Edition, created by Brabus affiliate Startech. And while it ain't an amphibious off-roader, this Defender takes its styling inspiration from -you guessed it- maritime themes.

Finished in a bright white color, the Defender 90 Yachting Edition rolls on 16-inch alloys wrapped around in wider tires measuring 267/75 R16. Complementing the 4x4's looks are new running boards with integrated entrance lights that are activated via the keyless fob or by opening one of the doors, an SVX grille and body-colored headlight covers.

Greater emphasis has been given to the nautical-themed cabin. The crew of Startech's Defender are greeted by a yacht-like wood flooring and navy-blue leather with contrasting white stitching covering with the doors, dashboard, center console and Recaro sport seats. In addition, the shells of the seatbacks are painted white to match the exterior while the headliner is made from Alcantara finished in navy-blue.

A sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals and high-end infotainment system round up the interior appointments.

Hyundai Azera

Hyundai Azera
Hyundai Azera
Hyundai AzeraWe recently got our first official sneak peak at the upcoming 2012 Hyundai Azera, but the South Korean automaker keeps dropping new information and pictures on its mid-size sedan that will take its place between the Sonata and the Genesis. This time we have details on the engine options for the KDM version, which will continue to use the Grandeur nameplate.

In South Korea, the Azera will be offered with a choice of two naturally aspirated engines, both featuring direct-injection technology. The base model will be powered by the same 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder gasoline unit found on the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima, while the flagship version will be motivated by a 3.0-liter GDi V6 delivering 270HP and 31.6 kg/m of peak torque.

The company states on the official brochure that the four-cylinder model will return an average fuel consumption of 12.8 km/lt (equal to 30.1 mpg US and 7.8 lt/100km), while the V6, 11.6 km/lt (27.3 mpg US or 8.6 lt/100km).

Hyundai has not made any comments or announcements regarding the powertrain options for the North American version of the Azera, though likely it will be offered exclusively with V6 engines. Recently, the South Korean automaker said that the Azera may get its North American debut at the New York Auto Show next April.

Nissan Sunny

Nissan Sunny
Nissan Sunny
Nissan SunnyTaking center stage and making its world debut at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition, is Nissan's all-new global small sedan, which will be locally marketed as the Sunny. According to the Japanese automaker, the new small sedan will go on sale first in China in January 2011 and then progressively across 170 countries worldwide under different vehicle brand names.

Even though Nissan's Spartan press release did not mention the Versa, there are one too many styling similarities between the new Sunny and the 2012 Versa sedan teased in an official sketch released by the automaker in October 2010. However, we have to stress the fact that Nissan has not made a connection between the two cars.

The Sunny, or as Nissan likes to call it, the firm's new global sedan, is believed to be based on the underpinnings of the Micra supermini, something that could explain the striking resemblance of the dashboard design.

Among the few details released about the car is that in China, it will be offered with Nissan's 1.5-liter HR15DE four-cylinder engine linked to Xtronic CVT, and that engineers have fitted the Sunny with MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam for the rear suspension.

The All-New Ford Ranger

The All-New Ford Ranger
The All-New Ford Ranger
The All-New Ford RangerThe wraps are off the all-new for 2011, Ford Ranger pickup truck which makes its worldwide debut at this week's Australian International Motor Show in Sydney before going on sale in 180 markets around the world but not -you guessed it- in the USA.

Like its predecessor, Ford's new Ranger was developed in cooperation with Mazda, which will also unveil its version of the compact pickup truck called the BT-50 in Sydney.

The new Ranger moves a step closer to passenger cars in terms of styling, interior appointments as well as technology features. It will be available in three different cab body styles, 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, two ride heights and four series choices.

It is powered by a choice of two new common rail Ford Duratorq TDCi diesels, a 2.2-liter TDCi four-cylinder unit with 150HP and 375Nm [277 lb-ft], or a 3.2-liter TDCi inline-five rated at 200HP and 470Nm [347 lb-ft], and new six-speed automatic and manual transmissions.

The 4WD models are equipped with an electronically controlled transfer case that allows drivers to shift from 4x2 to 4x4 through an electronic switch located on the console, while low range gearing can also be enabled.

Ford said that the cargo box of the new Double Cab is more than 100mm wider than before - 1,549mm long by 511mm high and with a maximum cargo width of 1,560mm. Volume is rated at 1.21 cubic meters.

All Ranger models will come equipped with a new Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system that includes four-wheel traction control, yaw control and roll-over mitigation, as standard. Other new technologies include Rear Park Assist and new Rearview Camera system, plus the availability of side curtain airbags on all cab styles for the first time.

Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe, said: "The new Ranger is an exciting and dynamic vehicle that will undoubtedly raise the bar in the pickup market. The scope of its capability and technology are further evidence of how powerful the One Ford initiative is in helping us globally to develop a whole range of all-new class-leading vehicles. We look forward to bringing new Ranger to European customers by 2012 and I am confident it will exceed their expectations."

The new Ford Ranger will be built at three sites with series production scheduled to begin next summer, initially in Rayong, Thailand. Ford said it is also planning to manufacture the new pickup truck at its plants in Argentina and South Africa.

The All-New Mazda BT-50

The All-New Mazda BT-50
The All-New Mazda BT-50
The All-New Mazda BT-50Mazda released the first photos of the all-new BT-50. As we've mentioned many times before, the two pickup truck models are the result of a collaboration between Ford and Mazda and will both get their world premiere at this week's Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The Japanese automaker's iteration of the compact pickup truck theme gets its own unique exterior cues and interior styling inspired by the firm's passenger car range. Though far less aggressive than originally implied on the first teaser sketches, the BT-50's exterior design is more funky than it's Ford sibling. The same can be said about the interior which is said to feature all the accommodations of a passenger car.

Here's what Mazda had to say about the new BT-50 in its teaser press release:

"It offers all the functionality required for business use combined with passenger car-like comfort for family use; and for active customers in Australia and Europe, it is the perfect answer for all kinds of outdoor leisure activities.

"With modern and refined styling both inside and out, the All-New Mazda BT-50 will raise the bar in the utility segment and for the first time provide a realistic alternative to the family wagon and 4x4 SUV."

VW GTI W12-650

     Volkswagen joined Audi in creating a unique design study for the tuner crowd at the Worthersee show in Austria. Designed under VW's head of design, Klaus Bischoff, the Golf W12-650 employs a W12 engine sourced from the Phaeton and slotted behind the front seats, effectively replicating Renault's Clio V6 layout and allowing for a rear-wheel-drive application.

     Beyond the gaping honeycomb grille in the front bumper - channeling air under the car to a rear diffuser under the rear bumper - are scalloped side panels to direct air to the mid-mounted engine. The purposeful stance is emphasized by bodywork that is 160mm wider than the standard Golf, with bulging wheelarches draped over wider front and rear tracks. The roof of the car is constructed out of carbon fiber to keep weight down and features an integrated scoop to direct air into the rear-mounted radiators, further aided by 'floating' C-pillars that supplement air to the cooling system.

     Heralded as the most powerful Golf ever produced by Volkswagen, the GTI W12-650 is claimed to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 202mph.

Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio

     Porsche has revealed a new convertible version of its 911 Turbo set to go on sale in September. The open top 911 Turbo weighs 154lbs. more than the coupe, largely due to reinforcements in the chassis, convertible body and automatic extendable rollover protection behind the rear seats. The three-layer fully-automatic soft top contributes to a low center of gravity and can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds.

     The Cabriolet is powered by the same 3.6 liter twin turbocharged six-cylinder as hardtop variants, capable of generating 480bhp and 457lb-ft of torque. Up to 501lb-ft of twist is available if the box labeled "Sport Chrono Turbo Package" is ticked off the options list. Contrary to traditional figures, the semi-automatic Tiptronic S propels the car to 62mph in 3.8 seconds, two-tenths quicker than its manual counterpart. A 193mph top speed is identical for both manual and Tiptronic-equipped cars.

     The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is a highly aerodynamic car, with a drag coefficient of just 0.31Cd. The active rear spoiler - which extends 30mm further than that of the coupe - is automatically extended at speeds above 75mph to generate negative lift at the rear axle. The front wheels are fitted with high-performance brake calipers derived from those found on the range-topping Carrera GT.

New B-segment model from SEAT

      New sketches of a forthcoming B-segment competitor from SEAT have been revealed. The new car will replace the dated and slow-selling Toledo model and be built alongside the Ibiza, Leon and Altea at the automaker's plant in Martorell, Spain.

     Unsurprisingly, the new car from Volkswagen's Spanish subsidiary takes design cues from the Passat sedan - with which it shares its architecture - but it also appears to have a low roofline like the Mercedes CLS four-door coupe. An extended hood, steeply raked windshield, pronounced rocker panels and a chiseled shoulder line clearly demonstrate the new model's sportier ambitions.

      Scheduled to be built as both a sedan and a wagon variant, the new SEAT will face stiff competition in the form of the Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 407 and Toyota Avensis when it hits European streets in 2009.

Concept Velozzi

     Velozzi, a California-based research and development laboratory, is dedicated to prove an environmentally-friendly vehicle needn't be quirky and odd. With that in mind, the company has created a technological marvel that will compete for the Automotive X-Prize, an international competition to develop a car that will exceed 100mpg.

     Constructed atop a carbonfibre honeycomb tub chassis, the Velozzi concept is a two-seat sports car with lightweight composite body panels. The seductive front end styling is reminiscent Pininfarina-designed Ferraris, with a fascia and headlamps that appear to have been derived from the Ferrari 360. Chiselled body panels along the flanks lead to massive air intakes fitted just ahead of the rear wheels and resemble rear-mounted turbines of a Lear jet.

     The Velozzi is an electric car motivated by twin AC electric engines sourcing power from a lightweight lithium-ion battery pack. Unlike a conventional electric car, an on-board Velozzi micro turbine optimized to run on any 'heavy' fuel - including ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, or conventional petrol or diesel - recharges the battery system when needed. Weighing between 2000 and 2500lbs, Velozzi claims the car can complete 0-60 runs in less than 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 200mph, while returning an average of 200mpg.

Interior Design

         The roadster formerly known as the Miata returns to the 10Best winners’, circle for the second straight year, its eighth trophy since Mazda modernized the concept of the affordable droptop sports car in 1990. The Miata (Mazda still uses the name unofficially) made its latest 10Best comeback last year with a top-tobottomredesign, the car’s first complete makeover. It has a new unibody, new skin, a new interior, a new  powertrain—new everything. In the process, the MX-5 lost its leastexpensive-roadster title to the PontiacSolstice but prevailed on the basis of its all-around goodness: It’s quicker, more agile, more refined, quieter, roomier, more comfortable, better-looking. Given all that, you might not expect much in the way of MX-5  news for 2007, but midway through 2006, Mazda rolled out a Miata with a folding hardtop. Undo the latch,  press the button, and 12 seconds later the top is stowed behind the seats, with no trunk-capacity  consequences. It’s remarkable, and so is the pricing, which, at just under $25,000 for starters, makes it the  least expensive hardtop convertible in the U.S. That’s a title worth having.

New Car: 2011 Ford C-Max (U.S)

Ford has revealed the U.S spec C-Max compact MPV. Designed in Europe and underpinning the Focus platform, the C-Max will premier at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Designed for young families, the long-wheelbase C-Max has an expressive, dynamic exterior that shuns conventional people-carrier styling. Optional equipment will include a hands-free bootlid (you put your leg under the bumper and it opens), panoramic glass roof, park assist, keyless entry & start, front & rear parking sensors, leather interior w/heated front seats, rear-view camera w/satellite navigation system, and keyless entry.

On the inside, the C-Max sports a ‘5+2’ seating plan, with the 2nd row of seats that slide back and forth. For easy entry into the 3rd, the 2nd outboard seats tip-and-slide forward. The middle seat in the 2nd row can be folding to create a walk-through to the rear seats. If the 3rd row seats are not needed, they can be deleted on the options list.

Under the bonnet will be two petrol engines. An entry-level 2.5 litre iVCT 4-cylinder producing 168bhp (170PS) and 226Nm (167lb-ft) of torque and a 1.6 litre Ti-VCT EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine, pumping out 180bhp (183PS) and 234Nm (173lb-ft) of torque. Both engines will be linked to a 6 speed automatic transmission.
